NEWS – The 11th Spring Film Festival officially opens with a wide display of Chinese paintings and artworks on its Gala Night at the Shangri-La Mall at Mandaluyong on January 25, 2017.
The exhibit which is expected to last until the end of January was positioned at the Shangri-La Grand Atrium where people can enjoy the artworks together with the delicious food prepared by the event organizers.
Dr. Sidney Bata, Director of the Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies and also the the event host welcomed everyone with a warm greeting as we all celebrate the entering of the year of the Rooster.
Additionally, Dr. Bata emphasized on how they are trying to improve the said event every year by choosing movies that people would watch and would help connect the two countries (i.e. China and Philippines) more.
Other guest speakers were Fr. Jett Villarin SJ, president of the Ateneo de Manila University and Dr. Jane Yugioksing, Chinese Studies Program Chair who both highlighted the significance of the event in accordance to the Chinese Culture.
On the other hand, the Film Festival features six different Chinese films which tackles different issures that will introduce more of their culture to Filipinos.
Meanwhile, other activities were featured in the highly anticipated Spring Film Festival in that includes an Afternoon of Beautiful Chinese Melodies: Chinese Musical Concert by the Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies at the Ateneo de Manila University, held on January 28 which was followed by a Pastel Painting Workshop with Master Fidel Sarmiento, President of the Art Association of the Philippines.
The Finale of the said film festival will happen with a traditional Chinese Dragon and Lion Dance at the Shangri-LA Grand Atrium on February 5 at 2PM. -JM LEAÑO
